ELM Legal Services has announced participation in the National Will Register to ensure that its clients' final wishes are always easy to find. Every Will prepared by the Bristol-based firm will be registered as standard, at no extra cost to the client.
Writing a Will is a significant life event, yet for many families, the challenge begins after a loved one passes away. Statistics show that one in five Will searches either discovers a missing document or reveals a more recent version of a Will that the family was unaware of. Without a central record, families often face the added distress of searching through old paperwork or contacting multiple law firms during an already difficult time.
To date, ELM has already registered 40,000 wills for their clients. By registering every document, ELM is removing the guesswork for executors and grieving families. The National Will Register is the UK’s primary central database, endorsed by the Law Society of England and Wales and used by banks, solicitors, and charities across the country.
Jim Emsley, founder of ELM Legal Services, said: "A Will is more than just a legal document; it is a way to look after the people you love. However, its value is lost if it cannot be found when it is needed most. By making registration a standard part of our service, we are helping to protect our clients' legacies and making a difficult time just a little bit easier for their families."
The registration process is designed with privacy at its core. The National Will Register does not hold a copy of the Will itself. Instead, it simply records that a Will exists and identifies exactly where it is being kept. Information is only released to authorised researchers once a valid death certificate has been provided.
With over 10.5 million Wills currently on the system and a new registration added every two seconds, the database provides a reliable safety net. Whenever a client in England or Wales chooses to update their Will with ELM, the firm will update the register to ensure the information remains accurate and current.
This commitment to thorough estate planning ensures that ELM Legal Services' clients can rest assured that their instructions will be respected and their families supported.
